Tooth Whitening
Tooth whitening is one of the most popular Cosmetic Dentistry procedures today. Several factors can cause teeth to darken. These include age, certain foods and drinks, smoking and medication. Whitening is a process that involves placing a whitening solution on the surface of the tooth. The whitening gel bleaches the discoloration out of the tooth.
How White Can my teeth get?
Bleached teeth usually whiten 6-10 shades. Teeth generally whiten quickly and dramatically. In some instances some teeth require Power Bleaching to successfully whiten. This will be discussed at the initial consultation.

How are my teeth whitened?
Dr Darfoor uses the Zoom tooth whitening system. Here a photosensitive whitening gel is applied to your teeth. When this gel is exposed to a light designed specifically for tooth whitening, deep stains and discolouration are bleached away. This is perfectly safe and will yield a beautiful result. The most effective result requires a 1 hour visit, during which you have the option of watching a DVD. For some people who have very grey or heavily stained teeth, a combination home whitening + power whitening protocol works best.
How long does whitening last?
The results are not permanent. Generally speaking it can last from 6 months to 3 years and is dependant on the initial colour of your teeth, lifestyle habits and if you follow up with maintenance bleaching.
